About the artist
Ventseslav Antonov (1942–2013), born in Byala Slatina, Bulgaria, was a Bulgarian graphic artist and creator of monumental works. He studied painting under Professor Alexander Popiliev at the National Academy in Sofia before spending a year in the Czech Republic. Upon his return to Sofia, he continued his studies specializing in graphics. After graduation, he settled in Varna, where he worked for many years as an artist at Balkanturist and at the Festival and Congress Centre.
Antonov created numerous monumental works in the Varna region, including installations in Golden Sands, Sunny Day, and Asparuhovo Square. He designed the emblems for the Week of the Sea and the International Theatre Festival "Varna Summer." As a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, he participated in general art exhibitions of artists from Varna and in various international graphics biennials and triennials. His work combined graphic design with large-scale public art commissions.
Antonov's work is held in several Bulgarian public collections, including the National Art Gallery in Sofia, the Sofia City Gallery, and the Varna City Art Gallery "Boris Georgiev." His work is also represented in the collection of the Haags Gemeentearchief in the Netherlands. Through his monumental projects and graphic works, Antonov contributed significantly to the visual culture of Varna and the broader Bulgarian art scene during the second half of the twentieth century.
