About the artist
J. (Jozef) Ró?ycki (Polish, active 1980s–1990s) was a Polish printmaker best known for his atmospheric aquatints depicting nocturnal and dreamlike scenes. He participated in the 12th Polish National Print Exhibition in ?ód? in 1991, and his work is held in the collection of the Leon Wyczó?kowski District Museum in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Ró?ycki worked primarily in the aquatint technique, creating softly layered tonal prints that blend realism with elements of fantasy. His compositions frequently feature cats in moonlit or twilight settings, rendered with delicate attention to texture and mood. The artist employed subtle gradations of light and shadow to evoke poetic, contemplative atmospheres. His prints from the 1980s demonstrate a consistent interest in nocturnal subjects and the interplay between solitary figures and natural landscapes.
Ró?ycki's work appeared on the Polish art market through various auction houses, including Desa Unicum and Sopocki Dom Aukcyjny. His prints, often produced as artist's proofs, reflect the active printmaking culture in Poland during the late 20th century. While his oeuvre remains relatively modest in scale, his atmospheric aquatints represent a distinctive voice within Polish graphic art of the period.
