Acquired from an Estate Sale, Seattle. Note: There is an inscription on the reverse which reads, 'То Capt. Kenneth C White With best wishes and kindest remembrances, John H Lindt, Colonel, US Army, Darjeeling, 19 May 44.' Sain was a Bengali artist who spent much of his life in the mountain town of Darjeeling. A prolific figure, he is recognised for his published work on Himalayan flora, as well as his oil paintings and hand-painted photographs. This painting stands as a striking example of his landscape practice, reflecting both his technical skill and his deep engagement with the scenery of West Bengal.
