Title: Crash & Wreck Mail 1893 Description: Soiled front from the U.S.A. to England, the stamp washed off, bearing a G.P.O London explanatory label "Information has been received from/the United States Post Office that / the dmage to this packet was / caused by a fire which occurred / in the Mail Car at Lancaster / Pennsylvania on February 17th / General Post Office / London". Also another London G.P.O. label with slightly differing setting, and a New York P.O label. An exceptional British Label for a U.S incident', Hoggarth & Gwynn only record one other cover from this incident, and do not record the N.Y.P.O label.
