Samuel A. Alito Jr. inscribed and autographed Official First Day Cover honoring the United States Supreme Court, writing, "For Sarah," followed by his signature and the date "8/7/06" in blue ink. The ArtCraft cachet bears three 20-cent American Flag Definitive Issue stamps canceled in Washington, D.C., on December 17, 1981, the official first day of issue. The cachet features an illustration of the United States Supreme Court building.

Samuel A. Alito Jr. (1950- ) has served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States since 2006 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. Before joining the Supreme Court, he served for fifteen years as a Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and previously held several positions within the U.S. Department of Justice, including U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey.
