Dave Brubeck (1920–2012) was one of the most influential jazz pianists and composers of the twentieth century. As leader of the Dave Brubeck Quartet, he helped bring modern jazz to mainstream audiences with innovative compositions that explored unusual time signatures, most famously "Take Five" and "Blue Rondo à la Turk." His landmark 1959 album *Time Out* became the first jazz album to sell more than one million copies, cementing Brubeck's legacy as a pioneering musician whose work expanded the boundaries of jazz while remaining widely accessible.
