Glenn T. Seaborg (1912–1999) was an American chemist whose pioneering work transformed nuclear science. Awarded the 1951 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Edwin McMillan, Seaborg co-discovered or helped discover ten transuranium elements, including plutonium, americium, curium, berkelium, californium, and seaborgium, the latter named in his honor during his lifetime. He also served as Chairman of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission from 1961 to 1971, advising presidents from John F. Kennedy through Richard Nixon on nuclear policy, science, and education.
