Theodore Jerome "Dutch" Van Kirk (1921-2014) was the navigator aboard the Boeing B-29 *Enola Gay* during the historic atomic bombing mission over Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Working alongside pilot Colonel Paul W. Tibbets and bombardier Thomas Ferebee, Van Kirk successfully navigated the aircraft on one of the most consequential missions of World War II. Following the war, he earned a degree in chemical engineering, built a successful business career, and later became one of the last surviving crew members to share firsthand accounts of the mission that helped bring the war in the Pacific to an end.
