Daniel K. Inouye (1924-2012) was an American war hero and statesman who received the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism while serving with the famed 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II, where he lost his right arm in combat. Following the war, he became Hawaii's first U.S. Representative and later served nearly five decades in the United States Senate, ultimately becoming President pro tempore of the Senate. Inouye was one of the most respected public servants of his generation and remains an enduring symbol of courage, sacrifice, and public service.
