Thomas Ferebee autographed Marine Corps Reserve 50th Anniversary First Day Cover, postmarked in Washington, D.C., on August 29, 1966. The cacheted cover is additionally inscribed, "Bombardier - Enola Gay, 6 Aug. 1945," commemorating Ferebee's historic role in the atomic bombing mission over Hiroshima.

Major Thomas W. Ferebee (1918-2000) served as the bombardier aboard the Boeing B-29 *Enola Gay* during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Selected for the highly classified 509th Composite Group because of his exceptional bombing accuracy, Ferebee released the uranium bomb *Little Boy* over its target, a mission that helped bring World War II to a close. Following the war, he continued his distinguished career in the United States Air Force before retiring as a major.
