General Omar Nelson Bradley (1893–1981) was one of only five officers to attain the rank of General of the Army (five-star general). A graduate of West Point, he commanded the First United States Army during the Normandy invasion before leading the 12th Army Group, the largest American field command in history. Following World War II, Bradley became the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and played a central role in shaping U.S. military policy during the early Cold War. He remains one of America's most respected military leaders.
