John Paul Stevens autographed First Day Cover promoting voter registration, signed prominently in pencil across the lower right portion of the cover. The ArtCraft cachet bears the 5-cent "Register and Vote" commemorative stamp canceled in Washington, D.C., on August 1, 1964, the official first day of issue. The cachet features George Caleb Bingham's famous painting "Voting Day" together with an American flag and a quotation from President Lyndon B. Johnson encouraging civic participation.

John Paul Stevens (1920-2019) served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1975 until his retirement in 2010. Nominated by President Gerald R. Ford, Stevens became one of the Court's most respected and influential jurists during his thirty-four years on the bench. At the time of his retirement, he was the second-longest-serving Justice in the Court's history and served as Senior Associate Justice from 1994 to 2010.
