John Paul Stevens (1920-2019) served as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1975 to 2010 after being appointed by President Gerald Ford. During his nearly thirty-five years on the Court, Stevens became one of its most influential members, authoring landmark opinions involving administrative law, civil liberties, and the death penalty. At the time of his retirement, he was the second-longest-serving Justice in the Court's history.
