An Irish George III silver vegetable dish by William Bond, Dublin, 1793, Oval, with reeded rim and handles, the domed cover engraved twice with the impaled arms of Martha O'Neal, loop handle, together with a matching dish which lacks the cover, length 40.7cm, weight 63.5oz. Footnotes: This is the impaled arms of Martha O'NEAL (1707-1796), who was born in co. Carlow, Ireland, the daughter of Revd. Dr. Benjamin O'NEAL (sometimes O'NEIL) (1678-1741) Archdeacon of Leighlin and Ferns, by his wife Hannah PAUL (1682-1764) both of whom were born in Dublin before moving to co. Carlow. She later married John STRATFORD (1698-1777) 1st Earl of Aldborough in the Peerage of Ireland, the date of the marriage being estimated to be c1730. Benjamin O'NEAL was the son of Constantine O'NEAL (1630-1692) of New Ross by Anne BARRINGTON (1660-1747) and Hannah PAUL the daughter of Col. Joshua PAUL (1655-1689) of Paulville, co. Carlow by Mehetable SAUNDERS (1656-1707), the family were Royalist supporters during the reign of Charles I and were later created baronets.
