After Gerrit van Honthorst, 17th Century A copy portrait of James Graham, Marquess of Montrose (1612-1650) oil on canvas 104 x 81cm (40 15/16 x 31 7/8in). Footnotes: Patrick Graeme 1st Baron of Inchbrakie was the second son of the First Earl of Montrose. He received the lands of Inchbrakie (or Inchbraco) and other lands in Strathearn by a Charter in June 1513, three months before the Battle of Flodden, where his father was killed. He built the Castle of Inchbrakie in 1519. The Castle was subsequently stormed and burnt by Oliver Cromwell's army in 1651 while in pursuit of the Marquis of Montrose. Legend has it that Montrose hid in an old yew tree in the grounds, believed to be the second largest in Scotland.
