An Imperial Japanese Kokura Arsenal Type 30 "Hook Safety" 6.5mm Jap Training Rifle in good condition with a bright and defined bore. The action appears to function properly with minor wear to the original finish. It appears to be missing its bolt face. The Arisaka Type 30 was produced in Japan from 1897 until roughly 1905 and was the Imperial Japanese Army’s first domestically designed and manufactured standard service rifle, emerging during the Meiji era (1868–1912) as Japan rapidly modernized its military and industry. Designed under Colonel Nariakira Arisaka, the Type 30 represented Japan’s transition from reliance on foreign arms to an increasingly independent military-industrial system. It saw combat during the Boxer Rebellion (1900–1901) and, most notably, the Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905), where it equipped Japanese infantry before being progressively replaced by the improved Type 38 Arisaka. Although production ended in the early 20th century, surviving Type 30s continued in reserve, training, and secondary roles for years afterward, making examples with their original early features such as the distinctive hook-style safety particularly representative of Japan’s early modern military history.
