Antique carved wooden devotional crucifix featuring elaborate figural and foliate carving. The reverse of the shaft incorporates a fitted removable wooden panel concealing an interior compartment containing aged paper and textile material. Oval inset/recess to the upper portion. Rich dark surface and age-related patina throughout. The concealed contents have been left undisturbed and are included as found. Shows age-related wear, losses, cracking and separation; removable rear panel is loose/detached as photographed.
