Delfico / 1900, on a boxwood shaft with a metal ferrule. height overall 35in (88.9cm); height of handle 4in (10.2cm); width 2 1/4in (5.7cm) Footnotes: Carved into the knight's shoulder plate is da M. Delfico 1900, (from M. Delfico 1900), a renowned caricaturist. He was one of nine children in an aristocratic Italian family and spent his teen years in formal study of the humanities, but his greatest love was music. Delfico painted, wrote plays, and designed, but he was particularly gifted at caricature, devoting much of the years 1860 to 1880 to that popular genre. His clever images brought him fame across Europe, and after moving to London in the 1860s, he contributed to Vanity Fair. While Delfico did not create this cane, it appears to be based on one of his caricatures.
