Mistral, three pages, 8vo, Maillane, Bouches-du-Rhône, 23rd May 1889, to [Louis-Pilate de Brinn'Gaubast], in French. Mistral writes after having been sent a copy of his correspondent´s novel Fils adoptif which he has not yet had time to read, but has skimmed through ´avec le plaisir que donnent les pays nouveaux´ (Translation: ´with the pleasure one takes in discovering new lands´), and continues to refer to Sonnets insolents and La Pléiade, observing ´Vous jouez avec la rime, avec le vers et avec les jolies pensées comme un jeune félin avec sa proie; et l´on est, si imprévue que soit la forme ou si hardi le paradoxe, enchanté de ces fiers ébats....´ (Translation: ´You play with rhyme, with verse and with lovely thoughts like a young cat with its prey; and one is, however unexpected the form or however bold the paradox, enchanted by these spirited frolics....´).
