Mariani • Brilliant-cut diamond weighing approximately 0.30 ct • Diameter 8 cm • Gross weight 51.08 grams Claudio Mariani (born 1936) was an Italian artist-jeweller and goldsmith based in Pesaro. Originally trained as a sculptor, he founded the goldsmithing department at the Scuola Mengaroni in Pesaro at the age of twenty-four and taught there for nearly two decades before dedicating himself full-time to his own workshop. Characterised by a distinctive use of hardstones and a focus on themes such as waves and energy, his work won the gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1973 and was featured in the exhibition Immaginazione Aurea (Ancona, 2001), curated by Enrico Crispolti. Examples of his work are held in the collection of the Museo degli Argenti at Palazzo Pitti in Florence. Claudio Mariani (né en 1936) était un artiste-joaillier et orfèvre italien installé à Pesaro. Formé à l'origine comme sculpteur, il fonde à l'âge de vingt-quatre ans la section orfèvrerie de la Scuola Mengaroni à Pesaro, où il enseigne pendant près de deux décennies avant de se consacrer pleinement à son propre atelier.
