Footnotes: Note Thelma and Otto Ziemer - the original recipients of this print - ran an antiquarian bookshop on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley during the 1930s and '40s. Along with the poet Robinson Jeffers and photographer Edward Weston, the couple moved in the same Northern California artistic milieu centered around Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula. Jeffers' Tor House - the Carmel Point residence noted in the inscription - was located a mile from Weston's studio, where he often sat for portraits. A year or two after Jeffers' gifted this work, Thelma Ziemer became director of California's WPA Historical Records Survey, a post she held into the early 1940s. Lot to be sold without reserve.
