A GEORGE III POLYCHROME PAINTED BOOKCASE
IN THE MANNER OF ROBERT ADAM, CIRCA 1800

This bookcase bears similarities with painted furniture designed by Robert Adam. An example of a George III painted cabinet by Adam is currently held at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, USA (Accession number: 1998.2.1).

Condition Report:

PLEASE NOTE: ALL LOTS ARE LOCATED AT SACKVILLE WEST STORAGE IN ANDOVER (SP10 3SA) AND ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO VIEW

With wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning
Some old chips, splits, and losses
Some lifting to the moulding on one side
Overall wear, fading, cracking and losses to paint and details, particularly to the edges and corners
The top left area has almost a sap/varnish streaked area which is visibly darker than the rest of the piece, please see additional images
The lock plate has come off the lock to the lower cupboard but is present with the lot
Handles and locks appear to be original, though the lock to the upper section is later, as is the key
There are some possible later backboards to the lower section of the bookcase
