A Documented Sheriff Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army .45 Colt Revolver that is in very good condition with a bright and defined bore. The action appears to function properly with a tight lockup, and the finish shows signs of an old re-finishment. Manufactured in 1916, This gun was carried by Texas Sheriff Woody Townsend and bears his name engraved on the backstrap. Woody Townsend was Sheriff of Bastrop County from 1902-1914 and then possibly served as a Texas Ranger before returning to duty in 1924. Mr. Townsend was documented as a proud lawman and even has a recorded incident in 1929 with this firearm used while stopping a burglar at a First National Bank of Bastrop to which Mr. Townsend shot and killed the suspect. This lot included a binder filled with official Texas election info regarding his service and even records showing his court ruling in 1930 from the extorsion of $50 that lead to him being removed from his position of power. A genuine piece of police history and a very well researched revolver with a Colt letter provided.
