About the artist

Hanneke van der Wagt (1942–2022), born in the Netherlands, was a Dutch graphic artist and etcher best known for her detailed depictions of animals, landscapes, and townscapes. She lived and worked in Oostwold, in the municipality of Oldambt, Groningen, from 1973 until her death in 2022.

Van der Wagt worked primarily as a printmaker, specializing in etching and pen drawing. Her subjects included domestic animals, particularly cats and birds, as well as scenes of the Groningen landscape and traditional Dutch architecture. She developed a meticulous, realistic style characterized by fine detail and careful observation. Her work often combined intimate domestic scenes with the rural character of the northern Netherlands.

Van der Wagt's etchings are held in the collection of the Veenkoloniaal Museum Veendam. She exhibited at galleries including Galerie de Groninger Kroon in Finsterwolde. Her work is recognized for its technical precision and affectionate portrayal of everyday life in the Groningen region.
