This piece is a bronze running lamp from the Han dynasty (wild goose foot lamp / dish lamp type). The lamp dish has an open mouth, a shallow belly, a flat bottom, and a long handle at the bottom. There is a gourd-shaped convex edge in the middle of the handle (which can be held to prevent scalding). The bottom is supported by a three-toed animal hoof foot or a wild goose foot type high circle foot. The overall lines are simple and smooth, typical of practical illuminators of the Han dynasty. Some similar devices have a leaf-shaped windshield or movable shaft cover on one side of the lamp dish, which can be opened and closed freely. The closed cover can prevent dust and oil spills, and when unfolded, it can focus light and block wind, reflecting the design ingenuity of the Han dynasty of "one device with multiple uses". In the Han dynasty bronze, the function of lamps changed from pre-Qin ritual utensils to daily life. They came in various shapes, such as lanterns, running lanterns, goose-foot lanterns, bean-shaped lanterns, etc. The casting adopts the mold-conforming method. Genuine products should see mold lines and gasket marks. The surface is covered with green rust, red rust and black paint, and the rust color is deep into the bones. Wax scale or soot deposits are common on the inner wall of the lamp dish, and the joints are naturally worn.
