Only two other pairs of cats of this rare model appear to be recorded, both decorated with gilding. One pair was formerly in the Blohm Collection, dated there to circa 1715-1720 (published by R. Schmidt, Early European Porcelain as collected by Otto Blohm, 1953, nos. 7-8, plate 2). The same pair was also published by C. Albiker, Die Meissener Porzellantiere, 1935, no. 244. Another pair, in a private collection, was published by R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810, 1966, nos. 1145-1146, and dated to circa 1720-1730. Another published example is the companion model to the present lot, formerly in the collection of the Counts of Solms-Laubach and published by M. Kunze-Köllensperger, Alexanders Tiere: Sammlung Axel Guttmann, 1999, no. 77. The author dates the model to circa 1725-30. Condition reports are not provided in catalog descriptions.
