BLYTH: AMETHYST GEODE BROOCH, 1964 Amethyst geode 18 carat gold Maker's mark, London hallmark Length 5.0cm Weight approx. 52.5g Footnotes: Ernest Alexander Blyth (1939-1995) began his training at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London in 1957, where he studied silversmithing, before becoming an apprentice assayer at Goldsmiths' Hall in 1961. His early work was influenced by Scandinavian design, particularly the work of Georg Jensen and Danish designer Henning Koppel. Following the International Exhibition of Modern Jewellery in 1961, Blyth joined H.J. Company Ltd, where he worked under Andrew Grima, then the firm's lead designer. He remained associated with Grima's workshop during the early 1960s, before establishing his own workshop in Shepherd Market with fellow jeweller Frances Beck in 1966.
