A rare engraved airtwist ale or cider goblet, circa 1750 The generous pan-topped bowl engraved with a border of alternating sprays of flowers and fruit, including pomegranates and perhaps apples, each issuing crossed ears of barley, linked by ropes suspended from loops pendant with fruiting vine, on a multi-spiral airtwist stem with a central knop, over a conical foot, 21.1cm high Footnotes: The decoration on this goblet is highly unusual. Whilst the barley would suggest it was used for ale, the fruit suggests that it could also have served as a goblet for cider, or perhaps even wine, champagne or punch.
