A Dutch engraved facet stem goblet, dated 1764 The generous round funnel bowl with a three-masted ship in full sail, inscribed 'HET BEHOUDE VAAREN 'T. SCHIP KATTENDYKE. 1764' (The Safe Voyage of the Ship Kattendyke. 1764), set on a diamond-faceted stem, over a conical foot, 16.5cm high Footnotes: The Kattendyke was built in Zeeland in 1750 and was 140 feet long, weighed 300 tons, carrying a crew of 250 men. She set sail for Ceylon on 8 May 1764 on behalf of the VOC chamber of Middelburg, under the command of Captain Leendert Van Der Linden, arriving back at Rammekens in June 1766. She did not return from her fifth trip to the Indies and was broken up in Batavia in 1767. A light baluster wine glass attributed to Jacob Sang with similar engraving and the same inscription, also dated 1764, was sold by Bonhams as part of the Peter Meyer Collection on 1 May 2013, lot 41.
