A pair of Royal Worcester vases by Josiah Rushton, one dated 1871 Of 'Royal' shape and in the Sèvres taste, of slender ovoid form, the high scroll handles hung with foliate garlands, the rich turquoise grounds reserved with oval panels both depicting a mother and child, including one with 'The First Hope' after Charles François Jalabert, both signed 'J Rushton', the 'jewelled' and tooled gilt frames surmounted by leafy branches in raised paste gilding, similar pairs of leafy branches tied with ribbons to the reverses, raised on circular bases with four rectangular feet moulded with small rococo cartouches, the rims, handles and bases picked out in gold, 45cm high, one with applied pad mark, one with printed mark in red (2) Footnotes: Josiah Rushton was one of the best painters of figure subjects at Royal Worcester and was allowed by the factory to sign his work. His vases were praised at many international exhibitions.
