About the Author: Jiang Tao (1610-1664), courtesy name Liuqi, later became a monk with the Buddhist name Hongren, and was also known as Jianjiang Xueren, Wuzhi, and Meihua Gunna. He was from Shexian County, Anhui Province. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty, he became a monk in Wuyi Mountain and frequently traveled between Huangshan and Baiyue Mountains. He valued learning from nature and was skilled at painting the scenery of Huangshan and Wuyi Mountain. His running script was modeled after Yan Zhenqing, and his regular script was modeled after Ni Zan, capturing their essence. He is considered a representative figure of the "Huangshan School" along with Shi Tao and Mei Qing, and is regarded as the founder of the Xin'an School. He is also known as one of the "Four Monks of the Early Qing Dynasty" along with Shi Tao, Bada Shanren, and Kuncan.
