A pair of rare and impressive second quarter 19th century Copeland and Garrett faux Siena marble yellow and white glazed earthenware floor-standing swan pedestals Circa 1833-1847, the undersides with blue printed factory marks, the swans modelled in the manner of designs by Giovanni Battista Piranesi The moulded circular tops above partially scale patterned moulded tapering column supports with moulded collars and reeded to the lower portions, each modelled with three upright swans perched on integral moulded stepped circular plinth bases, Each, 128ccm high, the bases, 35cm diameter, approximately (2) Footnotes: The Spode Museum Trust records only two pairs of this highly unusual model. The first, of unrecorded colour but likely the present pair, was displayed at the 1845 Exposition of British Industrial Art in Manchester. This was a landmark venue for Victorian design where Copeland first majorly exhibited its Statuary Porcelain, today more commonly identified as 'Parian' ware, the name adopted for the ware by the Minton factory. The second was a blue and white pair exhibited later at the 1851 Great Crystal Palace Exhibition in London.
