A late 19th/early 20th century gilt brass mounted mahogany table or bracket clock In the George III style, the dial and movement signed Haley & Son, London The rectangular case with ogee caddy top surmounted by a fluted square pilaster with flambe urn finial flanked by open scrolling brackets, the corner each with matching urn finials, the canted corners to the front with applied female term and pendant trailing flower mounts, the sides with bail carrying handles above arched espagnolette and scrolling sound grills, the arched door with inset floriate quadrants, the moulded plinth base on acanthus scrolling bracket feet, the brass dial with applied pierced floriate scroll spandrels, the 7 3/4' silvered Roman chapter ring with outer Arabic quarter divisions, the sanded centre with date aperture at VI and fancy pierced hands, the arch with conforming silvered Strike/Silent subsidiary dial flanked by matching mounts, the brass four pillar twin fusee movement with anchor escapement striking a bell, with pendulum, case key and winder 63cm high, 34cm wide, 26cm deep Footnotes: Charles Haley established his clockmaking business on Wigmore Street, Cavendish Square, in the late 18th century, becoming a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1781 and patenting a constant-force remontoire escapement in 1796. The firm later traded as Haley & Milner and, by 1832, as Haley & Son. By the late 19th century, Haley & Son was an established London retailer and maker of high-quality clocks, while also specialising in the maintenance and repair of existing timepieces.
