Handmade and joined with visible copper rivets, this piece exhibits the craftsmanship typical of the mid to late 19th century, c.1850–1900.

The dish shows the attractive wear and warm patina associated with age and use, particularly on the underside where natural oxidisation has darkened the surface.
Measuring approximately 39cm across the handles and 28.5cm wide, it would originally have served as a utilitarian kitchen or hearth item, possibly for serving or preparing food.

The combination of materials and construction suggests a European origin, quite possibly English or French.
