Sanders/ Pinxt:/ Mar 1771' (lower left) oil on canvas 76.7 x 63.6cm (30 3/16 x 25 1/16in). framed: 102 x 89cm Footnotes: Provenance Presumably the sitter and thence by descent via her aunt, Catherine Gresham, to the present owner Engraved Unknown artist, mezzotint, erroneously identified as Lady Charlotte Williams (née Herbert, see NPG D4823) From the engraving at the National Portrait Gallery, it is unclear where the identity of the sitter as Lady Charlotte Williams comes from. Presumably this refers to the third daughter of William, 2nd Marquess of Powis who first married Edward Morris of Pen-y-bont in 1723 and later married Edward Williams of Yestyn Colwyn. Both the family provenance and the date of the present portrait suggest that the sitter is far more likely to be the Miss Wade suggested on the back of the painting.
