Francesco Petrucci for confirming the authenticity of this drawing which he dates to the 1650s, and for noting that it is more highly worked than many of Mola's drawings of that period. It can be associated with the various studies held in the Teylers Museum, Haarlem, inv. n. A.91, for the Penitent St Jerome in the collection of the Museo Cantonale d'Arte di Lugano, (see N. Petrucci suggests that the figure of St Jerome in the present work comes closest to the St Jerome in ecstasy in a private UK collection (Op. cit., F. Petrucci, 2012, p. 334, n. B73).
