A copy of the etching is in the Royal Collection Trust, RCIN 810666. The scene is one of a well-to-do domestic interior with pets curled up near the fire and an elderly antiquarian pores over his collection in a cupboard, quite oblivious to the antics of the household going on behind him. His starkly-bald wife is being fitted with her wig while her maid's attention is directed elsewhere, towards the young footman who is groping her from behind. It is typical of Rowlandson's wry observation of human foibles though it is unlikely to have been based on his own uncle and aunt as his uncle died when he was a boy.
