Wout Muller was born in 1946 in Hilversum. In 1967 he graduates from the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam with a degree in Free Graphics. After his studies, Muller teaches for a long time at the Minerva Academy in Groningen. In 1994 he moved with his wife to Ireland, where he died on 24 January 2000. Wout Muller belongs to the top of Dutch figurative painting. He exhibited in the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, England, the United States and Ireland. His work can be found in many museum collections. Has a tear in the paper (on the right in the white), can't be seen with a Passe-Partout.

About the artist

Wout Muller (1946–2000), born in Hilversum, the Netherlands, was a Dutch painter best known for his work in Northern Realism. He graduated from the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 1967 with a degree in Free Graphics and subsequently taught at the Minerva Academy in Groningen for two decades. In 1994, he relocated with his wife to Ireland, where he died in Waterford on 24 January 2000.

Muller established himself as a representative of Northern Realism, a movement characterized by meticulous observation and engagement with the tangible world. In 1984, he co-founded the Fuji Art Association alongside Matthijs Röling and F.B. Hotz, an important collective within figurative art in the northern Netherlands. His paintings demonstrate a command of light, composition, and the human figure, often exploring the intimate spaces of the studio and the quiet dignity of everyday subjects. Through his teaching at the Minerva Academy from 1970 to 1990, Muller influenced a generation of Dutch artists while continuing to refine his own visual language.

Muller's work has been exhibited internationally in the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, England, the United States, and Ireland. His paintings are held in numerous museum collections, including the Groninger Museum, Drents Museum, Museum MORE in Gorssel, and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. In 2008, the Drents Museum in Assen presented a major retrospective, "Wout Muller - De mythe van het atelier," affirming his significance within contemporary Dutch art.
