Sir Julian Huxley (1887-1975) was one of Britain's leading evolutionary biologists and a prominent advocate for the popularisation of science. A key figure in the development of the modern evolutionary synthesis, Huxley went on to become the first Director-General of UNESCO and a founding member of the World Wildlife Fund. He also served as Secretary of the Zoological Society of London from 1935 to 1942, helping to shape its work in zoology, education and conservation.
