Savage Model 99 .303 Savage Original Furniture Redfield Sight

This Savage Model 99 is chambered in the classic .303 Savage cartridge and retains its original furniture, which remains well preserved with moderate evidence of use and wear. The manufacture date cannot be determined due to the serial number having been overstamped. The original rear sight has been replaced with a Redfield open sight. The rifle also shows evidence of previous modifications, such as the lack of the cover screws in the tang, as well as additional receiver tapping for the installation of a pair of Picatinny rails. The barrel remains in excellent condition with well-defined rifling, while the rifle overall exhibits evidence of use and wear consistent with its history.

The action and lockup feel tight, although the action is somewhat sluggish in operation. Cleaning and oiling is recommended. The Savage Model 99 is an important American lever-action design, recognized for its distinctive rotary magazine and long association with the .303 Savage cartridge. Introduced in the late 19th century and produced in numerous configurations, the Model 99 has become a well-established collectible among enthusiasts of classic American sporting arms. This example offers the added interest of its original furniture, classic .303 Savage chambering, and visible evidence of modifications made during its history.
