Contemporary German calf, covers with gilt-stamped panel enclosing spirals of flowers and leafy blooms, spine blind-stamped in compartments, ties. Head and foot of spine and corners expertly restored and endpapers renewed, front joint starting at head, some rubbing. Provenance: Franciscus Anton Brand of Schwarzenberg (presentation inscription on first blank, dated 1716, giving the book to:); Lotharius Francis, Archbishop of Bamberg; F. Third edition of Reinzer's work which incorporates the same illustrations as the first edition, published in 1697. An 'encyclopedic emblem book typical of its genre in the eighteenth century in its erudition, in the complexity of its format, and in the obscurity of the emblems with a general theme of meteorology and mineralogy.'(Raybould).
