Alfred de Musset's 1836 autobiographical masterpiece La Confession d'un Enfant du Siècle stands as the definitive psychological exploration of the mal du siècle: the profound disillusionment, boredom, and existential melancholy felt by the post-Napoleonic generation of French youth. While Maison Quantin's 1891 edition was already a celebrated milestone of premium printing, this specific copy has been elevated into a wholly unique objet d'art. The hand-colored engraved plates, head-pieces and initials throughout by E. Abot are enhanced by the original watercolors by Chanzy that illuminate the text.
