Occasional very light spotting. Contemporary dark blue morocco gilt, all edges gilt, silk ribbon bookmark. LARGE PAPER COPY of the first edition, in contemporary dark blue morocco. The descriptions of the views were written in English by John Scott and subsequently translated by La Boissiere. The artist, Frederick Nash, studied architectural drawing under Thomas Malton and later enrolled at the Royal Academy of Arts. In 1810, he became a member of Society of Painters in Watercolors, whose members had seceded from the Royal Academy over complaints that their work was not being recognized. Nash established a reputation as a painter of landscapes, especially of scenes in Germany and France such as the ones reproduced in these engravings.
