Publisher's red cloth boards, publisher's printed dust jacket. Housed in beige cloth clamshell box, morocco spine label gilt lettered. A bit of browning to front free endpapers. Corners barely bumped. Dust jacket spine a bit darkened, some minor staining, a few tiny chips to edges, slight wrinkles at top of rear panel. Provenance: Leonard Woolf (1880-1969), British author and husband of Virgina Woolf (presentation inscription, see below); sold Christie's London, 16 November 2004, Lot 416. LIMITED EDITION, one of 500 copies SIGNED BY ERIC GILL AND RENE HAGUE. A PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED TO LEONARD WOOLF BY ERIC GILL: 'To Leonard Woolf.' A SUPERB ASSOCIATION COPY of Eric Gill's important typographical manifesto. The Woolfs and Gill were good friends, all living in Sussex, and occasional collaborators. Gill designed and cut the initials for the Hogarth Press's limited edition translation of Rainer Maria Rilke's Duineser Elegien. Gill also inscribed a copy of the Golden Cockerel Press edition of the Four Gospels to Woolf. Gill 21.
