Publisher's original full white pigskin by W.H. Smith & Son, spine with raised bands and gilt-lettered in compartments; uncut edges. Toning to the binding and minor natural surface soil. LIMITED EDITION one of 260 unnumbered copies printed on handmade paper of a total edition of 280. The monumental Thucydides represents one of the final major achievements issued from the Ashendene Press before its closure. In the original notice sent out to subscribers, printer St. John Hornby foreshadowed the culmination of his life's work, remarking that this production would mark the twilight era of the press.
