FIRST ENGLISH EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE numbered 272 of 1,000 copies printed on India paper. One the most ambitious printing projects of the Victorian Age, the Dalziel brothers initially conceptualized the work as an illustrated bible as early as 1862. Eventually, the project was pared down to just the wood engraved plates without any accompanying text. The illustrations were done by some of the masters of the time, including Edward Burne-Jones, and were engraved by the Dalziel brothers at their Camden Press in London.
