George Condo makes paintings, drawings, and sculpture populated by distorted figures whose fractured features combine humor, elegance, and unease. Drawing on European portraiture, Cubism, abstraction, and contemporary culture, he developed approaches he calls psychological cubism and artificial realism. His work explores how a single subject can hold multiple emotional states and conflicting visual identities.
