Georges Braque
French, 1882–1963

Georges Braque was a French painter, collagist, and sculptor who co-founded Cubism with Pablo Picasso. His still lifes fractured the picture plane into multiple viewpoints, and his experiments with papier collé helped expand the possibilities of collage. After early work influenced by Impressionism and Fauvism, he developed Cubism and later returned to freer forms and stronger color.
