Pearl S. Buck autographed a special presentation edition of Fighting Angel: Portrait of a Soul, her 1936 biographical work about her father, missionary Absalom Sydenstricker. The limitation page states that 1,000 copies of this special edition were retained by the author for presentation, with this example hand-numbered 205 and autographed by Buck. Bound in red and cream boards with gilt Fighting Angel decoration to the front cover and spine. A decorative former owner's ex libris bookplate with handwritten notations is affixed to the front free endpaper.

Fighting Angel recounts the life of Buck's father, an American Presbyterian missionary who spent decades in China, and was conceived as a companion volume to The Exile, her biography of her mother.

Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973) was an American novelist and author who spent much of her youth in China, an experience that became central to her literary work. Her novel The Good Earth received the Pulitzer Prize, and in 1938 she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Among her extensive body of fiction and nonfiction, Fighting Angel offered a personal portrait of her father, Absalom Sydenstricker (1852-1931), whose long career as a missionary in China profoundly shaped Buck's childhood and understanding of the country.
