Fred Lasswell autographed First Day Cover honoring the Special Olympics, postmarked August 9, 1979, in Brockport, New York. Lasswell added an original cartoon sketch at left and signed beneath it, dating the piece "4/16/95."

Fred Lasswell (1916-2001) was an American cartoonist best known for his long association with Barney Google and Snuffy Smith. He began working with creator Billy DeBeck in the 1930s and later took over the strip, drawing it for decades and helping make Snuffy Smith one of the most enduring characters in American newspaper comics.
